What This Publication Is Not, and Where the Money Comes From

This page exists so that nothing on the site has to be inferred. It sets out what this publication cannot do for you, what it is not responsible for, and the one arrangement under which it is paid anything at all.

The commercial arrangement, in full

There is exactly one, and this is the whole of it.

A flight search appears on three pages of this site: at the foot of the front page, on the flight search page, and on getting there. That search is operated by an outside booking service. This publication did not build it, does not run it and has no part in what happens after you press its button.

Use it, then book with them, and a commission on that booking can come back to this publication. This is a material connection, and United States advertising rules require it to be disclosed where a reader will see it, which is why the same statement appears directly under the form itself on every page that carries one, and not only here.

What you pay is the same whether you arrive at that service through this page or go to it directly. This publication does not set prices, see prices, compare prices or publish prices.

What this publication is not

• Not a travel agency, tour operator, guide service or transport company. Nothing on this site can be booked from us, because we take no bookings.
• Not a party to any travel contract. If you book with the outside service, your contract is with them. We cannot change, cancel, refund or query it, and we have no record that it happened.
• Not affiliated with any dock operator, vessel owner, mill, carrier, terminal, railroad, port authority, public body or agency. There is no relationship, no permission, no sponsorship and no arrangement with any of them. Nothing on this site should be read as suggesting otherwise.
• Not a source of safety, legal, engineering or navigational advice. It is a publication written by one person who stands on sidewalks.
• Not a schedule. No opening time, arrival time or working pattern here is a commitment by anybody, because none of it is under anybody's control that we have access to.

What you are responsible for

Where you stand and what you do there. This publication describes places that anybody may walk to, and it says what is uncomfortable or unpleasant about each one, but a description is not an assurance.

Industrial streets have truck traffic and often no sidewalk. Bridge sidewalks have traffic behind them and a movable deck you must not be standing on. Piers and outer walls are uneven, unlit and exposed. Rail crossings close without much warning and stay closed longer than you expect. All of that is in the writing, and all of it remains your judgement on the day.

If a place is fenced, gated or posted, it is not somewhere this publication has told you to go. We describe no such place, and if you find one described elsewhere, notice what is being asked of you.

Accuracy, and what happens when we are wrong

Everything here was true as far as one person could establish it when it was written, and the site is dated August 7, 2026. Infrastructure changes. A sidewalk closes, a berth stops handling a cargo, a crossing is rebuilt. When something is wrong, it gets corrected and the correction gets a dated line at the foot of the page, which is the rule set out in editorial standards.

Approximate figures are given as proportions rather than data, and they are described as approximate where they appear. Nothing on this site is offered as a measurement.

The photographs

They show the type of structure being discussed. They are not documentation of a named object, and no caption on this site claims that they are. This is stated in editorial standards and in the footer of every page, because a publication that writes in the first person beside a picture is inviting an assumption it should correct rather than exploit.

No reviews, no ratings, no awards

There are none on this site, and their absence is deliberate rather than an oversight. This publication has collected none that would survive a question, so it has no such block at all.

Names

No structure, dock, terminal, park or building is called by its own name anywhere here, and no vessel or company is named. Places are given by type and by street. Where a general term appears that happens to resemble somebody's trading name, it is the general term and nothing more.
